The Canadian bonded carrier is involved with the movement of goods.
The Canadian bonded carrier has security cover that caters for the
following situations:
The transportation of goods to an inland office preferably a CBSA
office. The office should be inside the Canadian borders to allow for
them to be released for shipping.
The transportation of goods that are in transit in the whole of
Canada. The Canadian bonded couriers carry mainly those goods that are
not destined for Canada but will pass through Canada.
They undergo a security assessment test to ensure they are secure.
How to have a Canadian bonded courier:
They send some security that is in cash form to the CBSA. The
amount is usually around twenty five thousand dollars. If you cannot
get cash, checks are allowed but you will pay three hundred dollars as
a surety bond.
Fill out a form that you will then forward to the operations
officer.
If all the steps have been followed, you will receive a bonded
carrier code that will give you all the necessary instructions.
The highway couriers are usually given thirty days to obtain a
special coded label. If this is not done, they are penalized with a
fine of one thousand dollars. This special labels will not however be
used when that carrier reaches the Canadian border.
If you have intentions of relocating your business, notify the CBSA
and give them the full mane of the new location and address and the
carrier that you will be using.
Business people who want to change the names of their business
should also forward all the relevant documents to the same CBSA
office. The office will tell you on the various bonds that will be
involved. There are different types of bond that are usually
involved. The performance bond guarantees the customer that you as the
business person will perform your work as the contract states. The bid
bond assures the client that you will complete your work that you bid
on. Indemnity bond assures the customer that they will be compensated
should any loss occur. The payment bond as the name suggests assure
that you can be able to make the relevant payments
Under the Canadian customs act, all the carriers that are involved
in the transportation of goods have to have a bond. This helps to
guarantee that the goods taxes have been paid. All carriers are liable
to all the goods that they are carrying. The bond helps to secure
these goods.
